Stop me if you've heard this one before...
HIV is a virus transmitted from one person to another by bodily
fluids, such as blood and semen.
Someone who has HIV whooshing around inside them sees the rapid
deterioration of their immune system, which leads to illness,
opportunistic infections and premature death.
Science has come to the aid of people with HIV, offering them a
selection of life-saving drug cocktails which slows down the
progression of HIV and significantly increases their life expectancy.
I am an idiot because I have HIV gushing around inside me, but I
refuse to take any of the wonder-drug cocktails, despite being offered
boat loads of them at no financial cost to myself.
And here's a first: I agree that I'm an idiot. I'm an idiot for not
accepting the deadly concoctions and selling them on for profit.
It seems there's a valuable market for unwanted HIV wonder-drugs, and
that HIVers are very eager to sell on their life-saving medication to
make a quick buck.

Serostim is a key drug used to treat HIV-infected people. Serostim, as
with any drug in that line, is expensive. Now there is a major news
release that Serostim is being illegally sold at wholesale prices and
that the suppliers of the illegal Serostim are the HIV-infected
people.
Thomas Lavery of Irvine, California was sentenced to 52 months of
incarceration as well as 3 years post-incarceration probation.
Lavery's crime was to obtain and distribute large amounts of Serostim
which is used to treat HIV patients.
The amount that it represented was $1,009,460 which he forfeited.
This isn't new to Lavery who, in 2007 pleaded guilty to 44 counts of
wire fraud, wire fraud conspiracy as well as money laundering.
[...]
So, what is the big deal, right? After all people pull stunts like
this every day.
The issue here is where Lavery got his illegal meds. He obtained the
Serostim from suppliers who obtained the medicine from HIV-infected
patients.
There was another key player named Robert McFadden who is an attorney
and used clients' trust accounts to launder the money through. Records
reflected $2.1 million. He is also in jail.
But there will always be dishonest people like Lavery and McFadden.
The concern is the fact that not one or two but many, many HIV
infected patients are making money on a medicine they are supposed to
be using and probably in many cases are getting for free.
